Broken Heart

What happens to a broken heart?

Does it stay fragmented
And never connect?
Or does it refuse
To accept its deject?
Does it decompose
Like the rotting dead?
Or does it recompose
And refuse to be bled?

Maybe the heartbreak
Is the heart’s to carry.

Or a grave for the heart to be buried?

Or maybe a heartbreak is a chance for the heart,
To cancel what is broken and make a restart?

Based on Langston Hughes’s  “Harlem (What Happens to a Dream Deferred?)”
