blue kansas

i am sad

like lost in blue kansas

and pawning your hands

knowing you won’t come back for them.

getting no loan

but not wanting

one anyway.

being a wanted sign with your face.

overgrown bushes you planted with mom

but never really took care of

since then.

an ankle monitor.

worn out boots

and trembling knees.

open fists

and dreary windshields.

fog.

leaves on the pavement.

ground.

the key you once buried

kisses the top

of the soil.

i am sad.

like caged lungs

in a repurposed body.
